The short version: we collect what you type into our contact form, we use it to reply to you, and we only pass it to someone else if you tick the box asking us to. We run no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies. We never pass your details to a company that sells whisky casks.

What we collect, and why
There is one place on this site where we collect personal data: the contact form.

Please don't send us special category data. We have no need for information about health, beliefs, or anything similar, and we ask you not to include it. If you send us financial documents, redact anything we don't need — account numbers are rarely relevant to a question about a cask.
Who we share it with

The contact form has a separate, unticked box asking whether you would like an introduction to an independent service. If — and only if — you tick it, we may pass your name, email, phone number and the substance of your enquiry to one of the following categories:
- Independent valuers
- Auction houses, for consignment
- Bonded warehouse operators, for storage
- Insurers
- Solicitors and claims specialists
- Tour operators and booking platforms
We will tell you who we are introducing you to before we do it, and we may be paid for the introduction — see how we make money.
We never pass your details to a company that sells whisky casks, under any arrangement. Ticking the box does not expose you to that.
You can withdraw that consent at any time by emailing us, and it costs you nothing — we will still answer your original question.
Service providers
We use Cloudflare to host the site, to process form submissions, and to run the anti-spam check on the form. Your submission passes through Cloudflare's network and arrives with us by email. Cloudflare acts as our processor.
Nobody else
We do not sell personal data. We do not share it for advertising. We do not build profiles of visitors.
Cookies and analytics
We set no cookies and run no analytics. There is no tracking script on this site, no advertising network, and nothing that follows you between sites — which is why you have not been shown a cookie banner.
The anti-spam check on the contact form is Cloudflare Turnstile, which is designed to work without tracking cookies and is not used to profile you.
If this ever changes, we will update this page and ask for your consent before setting anything that is not strictly necessary.
Marketing
We do not add you to a mailing list because you contacted us. If we later offer a newsletter, it will be a separate, explicit opt-in with a working unsubscribe link in every message.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries: up to 24 months after our last correspondence, then deleted.
- Attachments: deleted once your question is answered, unless you ask us to keep them.
- Consent records: kept for as long as we hold the enquiry, because we have to be able to show what you agreed to and when.
- Correction requests about a company: kept as part of the editorial record, so that the reason for a change to a published page is auditable.
Where your data goes
Our providers operate globally, so your data may be processed outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on the UK's adequacy regulations or on the International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict what we do with it, or object to our processing. You can withdraw consent at any time, and you can ask for your data in a portable format.
Email hello@whiskeycask.org and we will respond within one month. There is no charge.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office atico.org.uk, or call 0303 123 1113. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right.
Information about companies and their officers
We publish factual information drawn from public registers — chiefly Companies House and the Advertising Standards Authority. Where that information identifies a person, such as a company director, we process it in the public interest of informing consumers about a market in which people have lost substantial sums, and we limit ourselves to what the public record states.
If you are named on this site and believe something is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will investigate. Corrections are published with a visible note of what changed.Get in touch.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on the page rather than made quietly.
