Silky, honeyed and faintly smoky. Immaculately made, and priced for the box as much as the liquid.

Diageo's own page states no age at all, framing selection by rejection rate instead — only one cask in 10,000 qualifies — with some components from closed 'ghost' distilleries.

We cannot publish an ABV. Suntory's Japanese Harmony page states none, and the Japanese site renders its specs via JavaScript, so the widely repeated 43% is not something we can source. Suntory also names Mizunara only as a tasting note, not a declared cask type — so the common 'partly matured in Mizunara' claim is not supported by the producer's own wording.

We publish no ABV because there isn't one: A'bunadh is released in sequential batches, each bottled at its own cask strength, and Aberlour states only 'cask strength' with no number. Any single ABV you see quoted for it is batch-specific. A'bunadh means 'the original' in Gaelic.

Rich caramel and baking spice with unusual depth for the strength. Genuinely small batch.

Actually small batch, unlike most bottles using the phrase: Michter's states each batch is held in a tank sized for a maximum of twenty barrels. It also publishes a barrel entry proof of 103 against the 125 legal maximum, which is unusually low and unusually disclosed.

Thick, oily pot-still spice with sherried fruit. The style Ireland nearly lost.

Single pot still requires a mash of both malted and unmalted barley — an Irish style that came close to extinction.

Red berries and chocolate from full red-wine-cask maturation. Unlike anything Scottish.

Fully matured in red wine barrels, not finished in them — and Starward sources the barrels 'within hours of being emptied', wet-filling new spirit while residual wine is still present. Grape varieties are not disclosed.

Christmas cake, walnut and dark chocolate. Full sherry maturation, not a finish.

Matured 'for at least 12 years' — an explicit minimum rather than a nominal age — exclusively in PX and Oloroso casks with no bourbon component at all.

Now carries a 10-year age statement — it was NAS 'Scottish Barley' for years and most sites still publish it that way. Every bottle prints a recipe code that unlocks the exact cask-by-cask recipe and barley origin for that batch, batch disclosure no other major Scotch brand offers. Bottled at 50% rather than the usual 40-46%, which the producer states explicitly.

Dense and spicy at 51.4%. Punches far above its price and its 500ml bottle.

Sold in a 500ml bottle, so per-litre it is dearer than the shelf price suggests.

Vanilla, toffee and charred oak at 47%. Still one of bourbon's better value propositions.

Heaven Hill removed the 12-year age statement in the week of 27 January 2016 and now ships an 8-to-12-year blend — it chose to hold the price and keep wide distribution rather than let the bottle go scarce, which is the opposite of what most brands did.

Toffee, orange peel and dry oak. Excellent at RRP, poor value at what it usually sells for.

Contrary to a widely repeated claim, the 10-year age statement has never been removed — it moved from the neck to the back label in a 2012 redesign, and 'Single Barrel' was dropped when bottling was automated. Eagle Rare 12 launched in June 2025 as a separate SKU, which is the likely source of the confusion. Allocated in the US; the UK is not similarly constrained.
